‘Impractical Jokers’ is an American reality television comedy series which features a hidden camera. It first premiered on December 15, 2011, on TruTv and is produced by NorthSouth Productions. Sal Vulcano, Joe Gatto, James Murray, Brian Quinn, Charlie DeBevoise, Pete McPartland, and Simmy Kustanowitz are on board as executive producers. Peter Fowkes, P. J. Morrison are the directors, and the series has been narrated by Drew Patterson, Bill St. James, and Erik Falcon. Warner Bros. Television is the distributor of the series.
The show basically centers around four comedians who coerce each other to pull pranks while being filmed on a hidden camera. ‘Impractical Jokers’ sets itself apart from other comedy shows by sticking to witty humor and eschewing the crudeness and slapstick comedy. The genuine relatability and real friendship of these four “jokers” have earned them millions of fans all around the world. The ‘Impractical Jokers’ brand has developed over the years and is continuously growing to create one of the most original brands on television.
Naturally, the show has been well received by critics, with The New York Times praising the format and execution, saying, “The gag pays off twice: once in the reaction of the unsuspecting passer-by, once in the discomfort of the fellow doing the asking. The show sometimes sabotages itself by getting too crass; the funniest bits rely on incongruity rather than vulgarity. But even the crude stuff has a silver lining. Once in a while, one of the four simply refuses to execute a challenge because it’s in such bad taste. Although this results in a forfeit, such displays of occasional integrity keep these four clowns a little bit lovable.”
Praise from critics and fans alike led to several spin-offs to the show including ‘Impractical Jokers: Inside Jokes’, ‘Jokers Wild’, and ‘Impractical Jokers: After Party’. Fans will be excited to know that TruTV network has announced a ‘Impractical Jokers’ feature-length movie to be released in 2019 as a part of the eighth season of the show. The feature film will be produced by Funny or Die production house, and Chris Henchy will be directing it. The film is produced by Funny or Die’s Jim Ziegler, Henchy, Vulcano, Quinn, Murray, and Gatto. Executive producers of the film include Mike Farah, Joe Farrell, Jack Rovner, and Marissa Ronca.
Impractical Jokers Cast: Who is in it?
For those unaware, Joseph “Joe” Gatto, James “Murr” Murray, Brian “Q” Quinn, and Salvatore “Sal” Vulcano, the main jokers on the show, were high school friends who went into comedy and improv. They formed the sketch comedy troupe called The Tenderloins in 1999. This troupe witnessed immense success, even winning a $100,000 cash prize on NBC’s ‘It’s Your Show’. After this, they went into television and came up with an idea for a show, which was originally titled ‘Mission: Uncomfortable’, before being renamed as ‘Impractical Jokers’.
Since these four comedians have formed the main cast of the series over all these seasons and have seen the audience respond favorably to their jokes, there is no reason to believe that the same quartet will not be returning to the upcoming season as well.
