Release Date, Cast, Renewed or Canceled
‘Titans’ is an American action and adventure web television series that falls squarely within the superhero genre and packs an element of drama to boot. This science fiction show airs on the DC Universe, and the series first premiered on October 12, 2018. If it were not obvious, the characters are based on those from DC Comics and is specifically focused on the team known as Teen Titans. The show has been developed for television by Akiva Goldsman, Geoff Johns, and Greg Berlanti.
The show centers around Robin, the protege of Batman who recruits young superheroes from around the world to fight evil. The team he forms is named Titans. The best thing is that it is a super dark series. And we all know that DC is at its best when it makes dark shows or movies. Viewers might be interested to know that a show on the Teen Titans was underway at TNT since September 2014. However, in January 2016, the network announced that it would no longer move ahead with the project, which is when it found its new home.
Things seem to be going well with the show as it has amassed a strong fan following already. However, considering the series brings a better balanced and darker approach than the current crop of DC films, this is not really surprising. Critics have lauded the show too, saying, “Despite a few tonal growing pains, Titans does justice to its source material and truly shines when its titular ensemble finally assembles.” They also noted how the series tempered its dark subject matter and brutal violence with a dosage of humor and allowed the characters to be well fleshed out. All in all, if you have read the Teen Titans comics or seen some of the animated movies, prepare to be pleasantly surprised with what they have done to the new series. Notably, the series’ growing popularity has also led to a spin-off, that is, ‘Doom Patrol’.
Titans Cast: Who is in it?
The cast ‘Titans’ is led by Brenton Thwaites, who plays the character of Richard ‘Dick’ Grayson or Robin, the leader, and recruiter of the ‘Titans’. He started out as Batman’s protege but formed the group to step out of his shadow. He is later seen burning the Robin costume, which is probably because we will see him in his new mantle as Nightwing. He is joined by Anna Diop as Starfire or Kory Anders, a powerful woman who is actually the princess of an alien planet, Teagan Croft appears as Raven or Rachel Roth, a mystical empath whose powers are driven by her emotions. She is the daughter of a powerful demon and feels the same sense of abandonment as Grayson.
Ryan Potter is seen as Beast Boy or Garfield “Gar” Logan, whose obvious power is to transfer into a beast. The recurring cast of the series includes Alan Ritchson as Hawk, Minka Kelly as Dove. The two are in a relationship and fight crime together. There are several other characters, both in supporting and guest categories, who appear alongside the main cast members, like Seamus Dever appearing as Rachel’s father, Trigon the demon, who has the power to destroy entire worlds. They make the show all the more enjoyable.
In the upcoming season, most of the main characters are set to return, but we will see a new Robin, that is Jason Todd, who is played by Curran Walters. Joshua Orpin will play the role of Conner Kent or Superboy. His character has been officially described as “Superboy, aka Conner Kent, is the angsty teenager of steel searching for purpose and the truth about his past. While looking for answers, he crashes into the world of the Titans where he finds an unlikely home and surrogate family as well as revelations that carry more complications than he ever bargained for”.
