Release Date, Cast, Renewed or Canceled
‘Archer’ is an American adult animated comedy sitcom that airs on FXX. The series first premiered on September 17, 2009 on FX. Floyd County Productions and FX Productions are the companies backing the project, while Jeff Fastner, Neal Holman, Chad Hurd, Eric Sims, and Bryan Fordney are the producers. Adam Reed, Matt Thompson, and Casey Willis are on board as the executive producers of the show.
‘Archer’ is the brainchild of Adam Reed, and was conceived soon after Adult Swim, the same channel that airs ‘Rick and Morty‘, canceled his comedy titled ‘Frisky Dingo’. Reed’s new creation started out as a James Bond-esque comedy about a spy agency which eventually turned into a dark comedy with each season being centered around a genre theme. The show has developed a large fanbase over the years and has been appreciated by critics too. The show follows the exploits of a dysfunctional group of secret agents- Sterling Archer and his seven colleagues.
‘Archer’ has won three Primetime Emmy Awards and four Critics Choice Awards. The series has gained praise for the rapid-fire dialogue, the reference heavy humor, and of course, for the meta comedic structure. The animation also deserves praise, as it employs limited animation, drawing from the visual style of comic art that was popularized in the mid-century. Critics have shown their love for the series over the season, praising the unexpected punchlines, distinct characterizations, and saying that it is one of the most brilliant animated shows that we have the privilege of viewing during our time.
Archer Cast: Who is in it?
The cast of ‘Archer’ is led by H. Jon Benjamin who voices voice the character of Sterling Archer, who is the protagonist of the show. Malory Archer voiced by Jessica Walter is the ISIS director and Sterling’s emotionally distant mother. ISIS stands for International Secret Intelligence Service, the fictional New York-based spy agency that the Archer is a part of. Notably, it also seems like a very poor choice of an acronym, given the current geopolitical scenario in the Middle East.
Lana Kane (Aisha Tyler) is Sterling’s love interest and the mother of his infant daughter, and the most professional field agent at ISIS; Ray Gillette (Adam Reed) is the agency’s openly gay bomb specialist; Pam Poovey (Amber Nash) is the head of the agency’s Human Resources department who is often ridiculed by her peers; Cyril Figgis (Chris Parnell) is a mild-mannered accountant-turned-agent; Cheryl Tunt (Judy Greer) is Malory’s delusional, psychotic personal assistant; and Dr. Algernop Krieger (Lucky Yates) is a bizarre, morally bankrupt scientist with little regard for the well-being of his subjects. These are supported by a wide array of characters who keep changing over the seasons, but help enrich the story that they are a part of.
Hopefully, in the upcoming season, we will see the major characters return, and they will be bolstered by the presence of new faces, who are bound to make the adventures with Archer, all the more exciting.
