The odds of conceiving sextuplets are extremely low, even with fertility treatments, as experts testify. This is why it was a very special occasion when Eric and Courtney Waldrop, who both live on a sheep farm in small-town Alabama, discovered that Courtney was expecting six babies all at once. It was, in fact, the first time in six years in all of Alabama since 2011 that sextuplets were born.
‘Sweet Home Sextuplets’ chronicles the unique and challenging journey of this family as the six babies are born, admitted to NICU and are reunited with a family of eleven. A show that is informative about a very rare pregnancy, as well as filled with oodles of adorableness! ‘Sweet Home Sextuplets’ is one of its kind reality television show that airs on TLC and first premiered on September 18, 2018.
TLC is no stranger to reality television shows that chronicle particular families which the network believes will be of interest to the viewers. This might be because of their lifestyle choices or their sexuality, or as in this case, families who have to raise too many children. Some of the popular shows that follow similar family-centered structure are ‘Seeking Sister Wife‘, ‘Sister Wives‘, ’19 Kids and Counting’, and the critically acclaimed ‘I Am Jazz‘. While ‘Sweet Home Sextuplets’ is much more recent, it has the potential of being right there with these popular shows on the network, and ever since its premiere it has already started to draw an increasing number of fans. The show has also been lauded for giving viewers a close look at the family while managing to remain sensitive to all members and not turning exploitative for the sake of higher viewership.
Sweet Home Sextuplets Cast: Who is in it?
The main cast of ‘Sweet Home Sextuplets’ include the proud parents, Eric and Courtney Waldrop, their three elder sons, Saylor, Wales, and Bridge, and of course: the eponymous fraternal sextuplets too. The six children, three boys, and three girls are Blu, Layke, Tag, Rawlings, Rayne, and Rivers, are named after the dominant colors of a rainbow.
In the upcoming season, we will see all the main cast members return, and the challenge will now lie in bringing up all of these kids under the same roof and is bound to present some interesting scenarios.
Sweet Home Sextuplets Plot: What is it about?
While TLC has already featured reality television focusing on multiple fraternal babies and their families, such as ‘Overdaughtered’, which documents the life of the Busby family as they give birth to quintuplets, sextuplets are a different story altogether. Previously, Eric and Courtney Waldrop had to turn to fertility treatment after their attempts to have a fourth baby had tragically failed due to Courtney suffering from some issues with blood clotting. It came as a shocking surprise when their fourth baby turned out to be a very rare case of sextuplets -– thus underpinning the show’s premise as Eric and Courtney had already overcome a bumpy ride of hurdles and blessings. “Six Blessings,” as Courtney put it. The couple maintains that after three children, they were just trying for a fourth, but Courtney happened to end up with eight fetuses in the first ultrasound. While two failed before the next sonogram, she successfully delivered the other six.
